In the midst of ongoing uncertainty surrounding a seat-sharing agreement within the Opposition alliance, INDIA, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh emphasised the party's approach of conducting talks with an 'open mind'.

The Congress general secretary in charge of communications highlighted the importance of refraining from public statements during the seat-sharing negotiations.

Approach to Seat-Sharing Talks

Speaking to ANI, Ramesh stated, "Khule mann aur band muh se hi hum seat sharing pe baat aage chalaenge (We will carry forward seat-sharing talks with an open mind and refraining from public statements)."

He acknowledged the diverse challenges posed by different states and emphasised that discussions would consider the unique political realities in each region.

INDIA Bloc Meeting and Mega Rally Plans

While the INDIA alliance partners recently convened for their fourth meeting in the national capital, the crucial issue of seat-sharing remained unresolved. Jairam Ramesh disclosed that the Congress would host a mega rally in Nagpur on December 28, formally launching the campaign for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Congress' Commitment to INDIA Bloc

Ramesh reiterated the Congress party's serious commitment to the INDIA bloc and readiness for seat-sharing discussions.

"We are taking all things discussed in the INDIA meeting very seriously. The meeting lasted three hours. Party president Mallikarjun Kharge and MP Rahul Gandhi clearly stated that we are ready for seat sharing and want the INDIA partners to be united and strong," he stated.

United Front Against Common Goals

Dismissing the notion of the Congress playing a dominant role, Ramesh clarified, "No, we are not the big brother here. We are the same as all fellow partners in the alliance. It's true that we are a big party and we recognise the responsibilities that come along with it. But we want to take everyone along."

He stressed that the collective goal was to protect the Constitution, democracy, and address issues like unemployment and inflation.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's Role

Responding to questions about Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's role and recent changes in her position, Ramesh expressed confidence in her continued active participation in the party's electoral campaigns.

"I am sure that she will have the same role in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections as well. We, our party and our party workers, hope that her role will be as active as it was in our electoral campaigns for Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh polls," he concluded.
