Congress leaders including Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge and others paid tribute to Indira Gandhi on her death anniversary on Tuesday. Indira Gandhi was the only female Prime Minister of India who was shot to death by her bodyguards on this day in 1984.

Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge paid floral tributes to the former Prime Minister on her 39th death anniversary at Shakti Sthal in the national capital.

Rahul Gandhi took to the social media platform ‘X’ to pay tribute to his grandmother and wrote “My strength, my grandmother! I will always protect the India for which you sacrificed everything. Your memories are always with me, in my heart.”

Kharge also quoted Indira Gandhi in a post he shared on X, highlighting her dedication to the country.

“Humble tribute to Indira Gandhi, India's first woman Prime Minister and our icon, who played an important role in building a strong and progressive India with her strong will, efficient leadership, unique working style and foresight, on her martyrdom day,” the quote further read.

Congress pays tribute

 

The Congress also shared a post on X paying tribute to the dynamic leader.

“Former Prime Minister Smt. Indira Gandhi is an example of fearlessness, determination and efficient leadership for all of us. You sacrificed everything for the unity and integrity of this country. bow down…” the post read.
