Sena vs Sena: Former Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray condemned the verdict of the Maharashtra Speaker on MLAs' disqualification pleas, labelling it a murder of democracy and an affront to the Supreme Court's decision.

Insult to Supreme Court's Decision

Thackeray expressed strong disapproval, stating, "The Speaker's order today is a murder of democracy and an insult to the decision of the Supreme Court." He pointed out that the Supreme Court had unequivocally stated that the Governor misused his position and made an erroneous decision. Thackeray urged the Supreme Court to take suo moto cognisance to save the country's democracy.

Challenges Speaker's Understanding and Decision

Questioning the legitimacy of the 2018 appointment, Thackeray asked how these individuals contested and won elections if the appointment was wrong. He discredited the rival faction led by Shinde, stating that it cannot be the real Shiv Sena after breaking ties. Thackeray affirmed their intention to approach the Supreme Court for justice.

Protests and Celebrations Follow Verdict

After the Speaker's decision, Shiv Sena workers led by Uddhav Thackeray protested, with women holding banners of Rahul Narwekar. Meanwhile, Eknath Shinde faction workers celebrated by bursting crackers in Mumbai. Chief Whip Bharat Gogawale expressed confidence, stating that they would respond to the opposition through their work.

Speaker's Verdict: No Disqualifications, Shinde Faction Recognised

Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar rejected cross-petitions for disqualification filed by rival Shiv Sena groups. He asserted that the Shinde faction was the real Shiv Sena post the June 2022 split. The lengthy verdict delved into Shiv Sena's constitution and the changes made, emphasising that the decision of the faction leader cannot be considered the decision of the political party.
