Another suicide has been reported from Rajasthan’s Kota, where an 18-year-old JEE aspirant died by suicide on Monday and left a suicide note for her parents stating that “She can’t do JEE”. According to the sources, she took the extreme step just two days before her examination.

Reportedly, this is the second suicide in Kota in nearly a week and overall, in 2024.

The victim has been identified as Niharika, who was preparing for JEE Mains, and hanged herself in the room of her house in the Shiksha Nagri area of Kota. The examination was scheduled to start on January 31.

According to the sources, the suicide note that has been recovered by the police claims that Niharika in her note called herself ‘the worst daughter’ and mentioned that committing suicide was ‘her last option’.

"Mom and Dad, I can't do JEE. So, I suicide. I am loser. I am the worst daughter. Sorry, Mummy papa. Yahi last option hai," the note reads.

Before this, a student from Uttar Pradesh, who was preparing for NEET through private coaching in Kota, died by suicide on January 23, however, police did not ecover any suicide note from the spot.

In 2023, Kota, which is well-known for its engineering and medical entrance exam tutoring centres, reported 29 student suicides. Authorities are working quickly to address the mental health problems that students at coaching centres' demanding academic environments are facing.
