'Modi wants to become PM for third time,' says AAP MP Sanjay Singh on India Munch (IDL)

India Manch: Aam Aadmi Party's veteran leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh was among the leaders who attended India Daily's special program 'India Manch'. During this event, he lashed out at central government fiercely. He answered questions on the proceedings of Parliament, the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, and the Union Budget 2024.

Suppression of opposition voices

Sanjay Singh expressed concern over the state of parliamentary proceedings. He said, "The voice of the opposition is being suppressed. In Modi ji's third term, we see ruling party members creating ruckus whenever opposition leaders speak. This is unprecedented in my seven years in Parliament."

Impact on education

He criticized Modi government on the NEET row. "It was an issue related to the future of 24 lakh children and paper leak has become a common occurrence in the whole country. 60 lakh children gave the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment Exam and their paper was leaked. The PPSJE paper was leaked in UP. Papers are being locked in different states," he said.

Subsidies were reduced: AAP MP

Commenting on the budget, Singh criticized the government's allocation decisions. "The highest expectations were from the farmers, but the MSP was not increased, food and fertilizer subsidies were reduced, and the agriculture budget was cut. Similarly, the health budget is less than two percent for a country of 144 crore people. These cuts affect every public interest department."

Concerns over Agniveer scheme

Singh also voiced his concerns about the Agniveer scheme and its implications for the Indian army. He stated that reducing the training period and service duration weakens the military. "Our army, which has won wars and defended the country, deserves better. Reducing training to six months and service to four years is not the way to strengthen our forces. The Prime Minister of India wants a third chance at the age of 73 but you want to retire the son of the farmer of the country at the age of 21."

Economic disparities

The AAP leader accused the government of favoring corporate interests over public welfare. He pointed out that substantial loans for corporate houses and capitalists have been waived off, while essential sectors like defense and social welfare face budget cuts. "The government has waived off Rs 16 lakh crore for corporate houses, but there's no budget for the army or social welfare," he remarked.
