'Let's not forget': CJI Chandrachud's Christmas message days after 4 Army soldiers killed in Poonch

The four army personnel were killed, while three soldiers got injured after heavily armed terrorists ambushed two vehicles near Thanandi in the Rajouri sector on Thursday last week.

Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud on Monday lauded the contribution of the army soldiers who lost their lives on an ambush in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch

Begin by acknowledging the recent tragedy and expressing condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers. The statement from CJI Chandrachud's Christmas message, coming so close after the tragic deaths of the four Army soldiers in Poonch, is bound to raise some questions and generate diverse viewpoints. However, this sets a dark tone and shows sensitivity to the current situation.

Acknowledge the context

"We lost four members of our armed forces a few days ago. So, as we celebrate Christmas, let us not forget those on the borders who are spending these cold mornings protecting us and our nation. When we sing, we also sing for them in celebration..., CJI said while addressing a Christmas program at the Supreme Court of India. 

It is to be noticed here that statement from CJI has come when Indian Army chief General Manoj Pande is scheduled to visit Rajouri sector on Monday, where the four army personnel were killed, while three soldiers got injured after heavily armed terrorists ambushed two vehicles near Thanandi in the Rajouri sector on Thursday last week.

The tributes were paid in a solemn wreath-laying ceremony in Jammu and Kashmir, to Naik Birendra Singh, Naik Karan Kumar, Rifleman Chandan Kumar & Rifleman Gautam Kumar who sacrificed their lives in the service of the Nation.

Meanwhile, the Indian Army said on Saturday said that they are conducting an inquiry into the deaths of three civilians in the Poonch-Rajouri sector, where terrorists carried out the ambush attack on the forces. In addition to this, addition forces of security personnels have been deployed in Poonch even as a search operation was ongoing in the forested terrain of Dera ki Gali.
