A video capturing the anger and frustration of Wayanad locals towards Leader of Opposition and former MP from Wayanad, Rahul Gandhi has rapidly gone viral. The footage, taken in the aftermath of devastating landslides that claimed over 300 lives, shows a local man vehemently approaching Gandhi's car, demanding answers and action from the Congress leader, who remains inside his vehicle.

BJP leader criticized Rahul Gandhi

Soon after the video got viral on social media platforms, BJP leader Amit Malviya re-shared the same, criticizing Rahul Gandhi and the Congress government for their role in the tragedy. Malviya accused Gandhi of having "blood on his hands" due to the Congress-led UPA government's failure to act on the Western Ghats Ecology Experts Panel report by Madhav Gadgil, which had warned against harmful environmental activities in Mepaddi.

While sharing the tweet Malviya stated, "Balak Buddhi Rahul Gandhi has blood on his hands because it was the Congress-led UPA government, which buried the Western Ghats Ecology Experts Panel report, prepared by Madhav Gadgil, that had especially cautioned against anti-environmental activities in Mepaddi. Then, as a Member of Parliament from Wayanad, he failed them again."

Local Demands and Frustrations

In the video, locals demanded that Rahul Gandhi step out of his car and directly engage with the community.

"Brother, tell him to stop the car! We are the ones who voted for him and made him win... He was the MP here... If he's so worried about stepping out and getting his feet dirty, why did he come? What's there to see?" one resident angrily questioned.

Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Wayanad

Rahul Gandhi, who has represented Wayanad in Parliament since 2019 and recently vacated the seat for his sister Priyanka Gandhi, was visiting the region to assess the damage from the floods and landslides. The disaster, which struck on July 30, led to the destruction of four villages: Mundakkai, Chooralmala, Attamala, and Noolpuzha demolishing around 150 to 200 homes and displacing thousands.

The Kerala government has also faced criticism from the BJP, which has accused them of negligence contributing to the severity of the disaster.

Meanwhile, the death toll has crossed 300 and casualties are likely to increase. The rescue operations by the NDRF and rescue officials are still underway.
