A 36-year-old man was arrested over the killing of his 32-year-old wife, whose body was discovered hidden in a suitcase at their rented residence in south Bengaluru. The appalling crime was revealed last Thursday evening when the accused, named as Rakesh Rajendra Khedekar, phoned his landlord and admitted to the murder, telling him that he had slaughtered his wife, Gouri Anil Sambrekar, a day before and escaped from the city.
Gouri, a mass media graduate, had just migrated to Bengaluru from Mumbai in pursuit of employment. Rakesh, who works as a project manager at a software company, and Gouri were residing in a first-floor building in Doddakammanahalli, close to Hulimavu, for only a month. The couple had moved to Bengaluru in recent times, although the precise date of the relocation is not known.

Hulimavu police arrived at the call, and after breaking into the house, they found Gouri's body packed into a trolley suitcase. The authorities also found that Rakesh's mobile phone was still on, which proved to be important in tracing him. With this information, DCP (southeast) Sarah Fathima coordinated with the Maharashtra police. The police force of Bengaluru promptly traveled to Pune and, with the assistance of their Maharashtra counterparts, arrested Rakesh at about 9:30 p.m. while he was driving towards Pune.
Rakesh is being brought back to Bengaluru for further interrogation. Investigations are in progress, and officials are reconstructing the events that resulted in the tragic accident.
