Congress leader Rahul Gandhi took a strong stance against the central government on Sunday regarding the postponement of the NEET-PG 2024 examination. He accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of being powerless against the pervasive issues of paper leaks and educational malpractices. Gandhi asserted that the BJP government poses the greatest threat to students' futures.

Criticism of Modi Government

In a post on X, Rahul Gandhi expressed his frustration with the current administration's handling of the education system. "Now NEET PG is also postponed! This is another unfortunate example of the ruined education system under the rule of Narendra Modi," Gandhi wrote in Hindi. He labelled the BJP-led government as "incompetent."

Gandhi went further, claiming, "Now it is clear - Modi, who used to silently watch the spectacle every time, is completely helpless in front of the paper leak racket and education mafia. Narendra Modi's incompetent government is the biggest threat to the future of students - we must save the future of the country from it."

Government Response and Actions

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare announced the postponement of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Postgraduate (NEET-PG), originally scheduled for Sunday. The ministry stated that a new date for the examination will be provided soon. The decision came in light of recent allegations questioning the integrity of several competitive exams.

The ministry's statement explained, "Taking into consideration the recent incidents of allegations regarding the integrity of certain competitive examinations, the Ministry of Health has decided to undertake a thorough assessment of the robustness of the processes of the NEET-PG Entrance Examination, conducted by the National Board of Examination for medical students."

Steps Taken by the National Testing Agency

Facing criticism for alleged irregularities in the conduct of medical entrance exams, the National Testing Agency (NTA) is under scrutiny. In response, the Centre has established a high-level committee to propose reforms in the examination procedure. The seven-member panel, led by former ISRO chief K Radhakrishnan, aims to address and rectify these issues.

Additionally, the Centre has removed NTA director general Subodh Singh and transferred the investigation of irregularities in NEET-UG to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
