'Balatkari Janata Party': Congress slams BJP over IIT-BHU case, questions PM Modi, Yogi, Irani's silence

IIT-BHU case: The Congress has launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) following the arrest of BJP IT Cell office bearers for the gang rape of a Banaras Hindu University student on campus in November.

Terming it the 'Balatkari (rapist) Janata Party,' Netta D’Souza, President of the All India Mahila Congress, led the charge.

Seeking Answers from Top BJP Leaders

At a press conference in New Delhi, D'Souza, accompanied by Dolly Sharma, questioned the conspicuous silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and Union Minister of Women and Child Development Smriti Irani. The silence persisted even after photographs of the rape accused surfaced alongside them and other senior BJP leaders.

IT Cell Office Bearers Implicated

D'Souza highlighted that the accused, identified as Kunal Pandey, Abhishek Chauhan, and Sakhsham Patel, were active office bearers of the BJP's IT Cell. Displaying photographs of the accused with prominent BJP figures, she emphasised the considerable influence wielded by the rape accused.

Concerns Over Delayed Arrest and Evidence Tampering

Notably, the Mahila Congress president expressed concern about the delayed arrest, indicating that the accused, who resided in Madhya Pradesh and participated in the BJP's election campaign, may have had time to destroy crucial evidence.

Safety Concerns for Women

Dolly Sharma echoed the sentiments, expressing the increasing sense of insecurity among women in the country. She criticised the government for its failure to prevent such heinous crimes and accused it of providing patronage and protection to the culprits.

As the BJP faces severe criticism over this shocking incident, the Congress has labelled it the 'Balatkari Janata Party,' further intensifying the political showdown.
