Work of manual drilling to rescue the 41 workers trapped inside the Silkyara tunnel continued on Tuesday morning, 17 days after the under-construction tunnel collapsed is continuing and experts are hoping for some good news by the end of today.

As per the latest update, pipe has been inserted up to 55.3 metres.

Micro Tunnelling expert Chris Cooper said this morning that 3 metres of manual drilling has been done so far and that a total of 50 metres of drilling work has been completed so far. The team his hopeful of completing this today, he added.

As per official sources, about 57 metres of drilling work from the mouth of the tunnel, is to be done in total to lay a pipe inside the tunnel to reach the trapped workers.

Rat-hole miners are carrying out the manual drilling work which has been going on since Monday night.

First visuals of the drilling also surfaced on Tuesday morning

Earlier the rescuers had completed about 47 metres of drilling work using the auger machine to lay the pipe. The drilling work was put on hold as the auger machine got stuck in the debris, which was later cut and removed using a plasma cutter.
