Hey Folks! Japan is known for holding the world’s powerful passport for five consecutive years. But, guess what? It dropped from its top position. Shocking right? Now, Singapore has replaced the country for having the title, by allowing visa-free entry to 192 global destinations, according to the latest Henley Passport Index.

Japan has dropped to third place as the number of the destinations its passport can access without a visa fell after five years at the top, as per the ranking published by London-based immigration consultancy Henley & Partners.

Singapore takes top spot at Henley Passport Index

As Singapore takes the top spot and Japan gets the third, US, which once topped the rank a decade ago, slit two places to eight place, while the UK jumped two places to fourth.

Singapore is a country which is always on a bucket list for every tourist across the globe. This country is a magnet for wealth, with a recent influx driven by a crackdown on private enterprise in China and fears over geopolitical tensions. However, landing the privilege to use its travel document isn’t that easy. In Singapore, around 5.6 million were granted citizenship to almost 23,100 people last year. Earlier this year, the authorities ruled out doing so based on the net income of individuals.

Henley’s ranking tracks data from the International Air Transport Association. The methodology differs from other passport indexes like one published by financial advisory Arton Capital, which put the United Arab Emirates in pole position last year.
