Menstrual Leave: Most women face problems during menstruation every month. The first day is very difficult. The abdominal pain and discomfort are so much that it becomes difficult to get up or sit. But it seems as if working women have become accustomed to enduring the pain. Because it is not possible to take leave every month. But there are many companies that, taking care of the difficult days of their female employees, give them one or two days off (menstrual leave) in a month so that they can rest at home. Ahead of International Women's Day, Indian multinational company Larsen & Toubro (L&T) also took a similar big step. 5,000 female employees of the company will get the benefit of this.

L&T's big decision, will give period leave

L&T has decided that its women employees will be able to take one day of menstrual leave in a month. This was announced by the company's Chairman and Managing Director SN Subrahmanyam at an event organized on the occasion of International Women's Day. This is no less than a big gift for the women working there. Work is now being done on how this policy will be implemented.

Meanwhile, it is important to know that there are many other companies in India that provide period leave to their female employees. These include Swiggy and Zomato. Zomato has been providing menstrual leave to its female employees since 2020. Know about some such companies in the country that are providing period leave to their female employees.

  • - Online food delivery company Zomato has been providing menstrual leave to female employees since 2020. 
  • - Online food delivery company Swiggy introduced a two-day menstrual leave for women in 2021. 
  • - BYJU'S also started providing one menstrual leave every month in the year 2021. 
  • - AU Small Finance Bank implemented the Period Leave Policy in the year 2023. Under this, female employees get one day off. 
  • -Orient Electric, a unit of the CK Birla Group, implemented a period leave policy in December 2022. 

'Getting Paid for period leave: A New Policy' 

In India too, a lot of attention is being paid to the period leave policy. Odisha is the fourth state to provide one day of menstrual leave to women employees working in both the government and private sectors. This policy came into effect in Odisha in August 2024. Now, a related bill is also being considered in Karnataka, which proposes to provide six days of menstrual leave every year and free health products related to it in both the government and private sectors.
