Mattel, the American toy manufacturing company behind popular toy creations like Barbie and Hot Wheels, has unveiled an extraordinary opportunity for UNO enthusiasts to turn their card-playing prowess into a lucrative endeavour worth thousands of dollars.

Mattel is embarking on a quest to crown a ‘Chief UNO Player’ for an engaging part-time role spanning four weeks in New York City.

The unique position involves introducing fellow UNO aficionados to a thrilling new rendition of the game, named ‘UNO Quatro’. This new and innovative variant seamlessly blends the timeless charm of ‘Connect 4’, where players strive to align four chips of the same colour, with the classic UNO mechanics that involve stacking matching colours and numbers, as per a report by The Independent.

“We’re looking for someone who’s just as passionate about throwing down a Draw 4 as they are engaging strangers in a game. Someone who knows how to play the reverse and likes to get WILD (in a nice-ish way). Is that you?” the official job listing on Mattel’s website reads.

The chosen ‘Chief UNO Player’ will also play an integral role in crafting engaging social content for a range of UNO games. This includes making appearances on live streams, where they will showcase their UNO Quatro skills alongside the brand’s creators.

For the duration of this four-week assignment, the appointed individual will be handsomely compensated with $4,444 (approximately ₹3,67,866) per week. During this time, the ‘chief Uno player’ would need to play Uno Quatro for four hours every day for four days each week at Pier 17 in New York City.

Ray Adler, the Vice President and Global Head of Games at Mattel emphasised that this initiative stems from the company’s commitment to enriching the fan experience. In a public statement released by Mattel, Adler said, “We’re constantly looking to create new ways for fans to engage with Uno – and with the nationwide search for the first-ever Chief Uno Player, we’re bringing in-person gameplay to fans in a way they’ve never experienced before.”

Want to apply for ‘Chief UNO Player’ role? Know how…

Applicants aspiring to bag this role must be at least 18 years old and permanent residents or citizens of the United States.

The application process is quite straightforward, where prospective candidates are invited to participate by stitching together a TikTok video, and responding to a series of questions outlined by the Uno team.

These questions delve into the participant’s most favourite Uno memory, their most unforgettable ‘reverse card moment’, their compelling case for being the perfect ‘chief Uno player’, and lastly, ‘what’s your favourite version of Uno?’

The submission window for applications is open until August 10th. Mattel is targeting a start date of September 13th for the chosen individual, who will then embark on a journey through the New York City streets, engaging strangers in thrilling Uno showdowns.

“We’re thrilled to offer a position to the ultimate Uno player to help introduce our brand-new game, Uno Quatro, to the world,” Adler exclaimed. “Who wouldn’t want to spend their afternoons playing Uno – and best of all, getting paid while doing it?”

Fans of the game have already expressed their enthusiasm for this unique proposition, flooding the Uno team’s TikTok comments with enthusiastic responses, such as “I volunteer” and “I’d like to be the person pls”.
