fatty liver
Lifestyle: The problem of fatty liver and diabetes in Chandigarh is taking the form of a worrying health crisis. A recent study has revealed that while an average of 38 adults out of every 100 across the country are suffering from the disease, the figure has reached 53.5% in Chandigarh. In the cases of fatty liver across the country, Chandigarh has now reached the first place, leaving behind the capital Delhi and other major cities.
Experts consider this trend to be extremely worrying. He says that the disease is no longer limited to alcohol consumption, but is spreading rapidly due to junk food, sweet drinks, sitting lifestyle and excessive oil-sugar intake.
According to Dr. Rakesh Kosha, former head of the Gastroenterology Department of PGI Chandigarh, now the number of patients who never drank alcohol, but the amount of fat in their liver is being found more than 5%. He says, "Fatty liver is now not only with habits, but has become a whole lifestyle related disease."
Experts have warned that the disease is no longer limited to the middle age group. School -going children and college students are also falling victim to it. Fast food, long time on mobile/screen and lack of physical activities are becoming the biggest reasons.
"Fatty liver cases have increased rapidly in the age group of 15 to 25 years today. If measures are not taken from now on, the country may need a huge need for liver transplant in future," is called Dr. Kochare.
Physicians have warned that if the fatty liver is ignored, it can be transformed into liver cirrhosis, fibrosis and even liver cancer. Especially when the hepatitis B/C infection or alcohol intake is added to the fatty liver, the situation becomes more serious.
In the opinion of experts, these figures of Chandigarh are a warning for the whole country. If the lifestyle is not changed in time and widespread public awareness campaign is not carried out, then fatty liver can become India's biggest health challenge in the coming years.
Including nutrition and health in school education at the government level, promoting regular health check -up and setting up free screening camps is the demand for times. Otherwise, a silent disease can swallow the lives of crores of people.
