In fact, rising cases of childhood obesity, anxiety, and sleep issues are being linked to digital overexposure. Parents often react by scolding or setting strict rules, but these approaches can backfire if not handled carefully. Dr. Arpit Gupta, a child specialist, recently explained on social media how parents can reduce screen time effectively without creating conflict. Here are his key suggestions:

1. Replace Screens with Play and Creativity

Encourage your child to get involved in physical or hands-on activities like running, cycling, drawing, music, or reading. Simple toys, puzzles, and board games can be excellent alternatives to phones or tablets. When children find joy in these activities, their interest in screens naturally fades.

2. Build a Healthy Daily Routine

Create a daily schedule for meals, playtime, studies, rest-and include a fixed, limited time for screen use. Consistency helps children feel secure and reduces the urge to use devices constantly. You can also make screen-free time more enjoyable with activities like storytelling, gardening, or learning something new together.

3. Be a Role Model

Kids observe and imitate their parents. If they see you spending less time on your phone and engaging with them more, they’ll do the same. Helping your child reduce screen time isn’t about punishment- it’s about offering better options, setting examples, and creating a nurturing routine.
