World Liver Day 2025: Every year on April 19, World Liver Day is celebrated so that people can be taken care of this essential organ and making it aware. Liver work is very important in our body. It not only helps in digesting food but also does many important things like storing energy and fighting infections out of the body. Dr. Amit Miglani, director and HOD of the Department of Gastroenterology at Asian Hospital in Faridabad, says that the liver is an organ that works quietly, but until its condition is very bad, it does not give any special warning. However, there are some initial symptoms that can be identified and treated in time.

Dr. Miglani said that if you identify these five signs on time, then liver diseases can be avoided:

  • Constant fatigue and weakness: If you feel tired even without any special hard work or there is a lack of energy in the body, then it can be the first gesture of liver malfunction. The body does not get enough energy when the liver functioning decreases.
  • Skin and Eyes Yellow: Dr. Miglani says, "If the eye whiteness or skin color starts turning yellow, it is a sign of jaundice. This is when the liver is unable to process Bilirubin properly." It can also be a symptom of hepatitis or liver infection.
  • Stomach swelling or heaviness: Liver -related disturbances often feel gas, swelling or heaviness in the upper abdomen. It can be overwhelming to ignore it as only a minor gas, as it can be a sign of fatty liver or inflammation.
  • Repeated nausea or vomiting: Digestion is affected by liver malfunction. This can cause problems such as repeated nausea, vomiting complaints or nausea. If these symptoms have been going on for a long time, contact the doctor immediately.
  • Skin itching or rashes: When the liver is unable to remove the toxic elements from the body, its effect can be seen in the form of itching, rash or rashes on the skin. This can also be a serious signal.

Dr. Miglani says that in many cases the stomach is filled with water (ascites), which may be a sign of a serious condition such as liver cirrhosis. "Do not take such symptoms lightly. Get the test done on time and adopt the right lifestyle, so that the liver remains healthy for a long time," he advised.
