As we grow older, caring for the skin becomes a necessity because pollution and aging damage the skin. It begins to lose its elasticity and shine and develops wrinkles. Thus, in order to maintain healthy and plush skin, women opt for facials to get rid of harmful pollutants, cleanse the skin and provide nutrition to it. But, with our hectic lifestyles today, we cannot afford to march to beauty parlours or salons all the time. Having to visit the parlour every now and then can also dig a hole in our pockets. For this reason, we bring to you, an inexpensive and less time taking method to give you that salon-like glow in the comfort of your home.

Without any ado, let us learn how to do our own facials at home:

  1. Cleansing: Daily, our skin is exposed to dust, soot and so many other pollutants that clog our pores and result in acne and oil deposition on the face. Thus, cleansing is the primary step to get rid of those pollutants. You can easily use a market-bought toner or cleanser and dip it in water to clean your face. You can even use raw milk to cleanse your face if you don’t want to opt for any market-bought products.
  2. Scrubbing: As mentioned earlier, these harmful pollutants clog our facial pores. Apart from this, dead skin cells are also accumulated on our faces that need to be exfoliated. For this reason, you should scrub your face with any market-bought scrubbing cream. You can also substitute this with a homemade scrub made of lemon, honey and sugar. You only need to mix a little bit of sugar in lemon juice and honey and viola! Your natural scrub is ready to be used.
  3. Massage: After cleansing and scrubbing, we come to the most important step of the facial- the massage. Massaging helps to improve circulation and relieves stress and tension in the facial muscles. You can either use a facial cream available in the market or easily prepare one at home. For this, you need a little bit of milk cream and a pinch of turmeric and half a spoonful of gram flour and mix the three together. You then need to massage the face with this paste for about 15 minutes. While massaging, you need to keep it in mind that the fingers should be moving in an upward direction, that is, from the bottom of the face to the cheekbones to lift up the facial muscles. This process provides the skin with the necessary nutrients and tightens it.
  4. Steam: After massaging, you need to take steam to unclog your pores and freshen up your skin. This process helps in deeply moisturising the skin. After this, you can wipe your face with a soft and clean towel.
  5. Face pack or mask: The last step of the facial is applying a face pack or a face mask. There are a variety of products available in the market but you can also prepare a mask at home by using Multani mitti, sandalwood powder and rosewater. You need to mix these ingredients and apply it to your face for about 15 minutes and wash it out when it dries.

This easy and affordable home-based facial cleanses your skin, unclogs your pores, nourishes your face and restores its moisture without having to go to a beauty parlour.
