Would you prefer to go to work without ironing your clothes? In another step closer to saving the environment and curbing the effects of global warming, the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) has launched a fortnight program, ‘Wrinkles Achche Hai.’

The rationale behind the move

CSIR has recently announced the campaign and asked the employees across its 37 laboratories spread in India to wear non-ironed clothes from Monday till May 15. According to the organization, the move has been taken to curb the global climate change effects. It says, ironing a pair of clothes releases 100-200 grams of carbon dioxide emissions.

Sharing the campaign on the official social media handle, CSIR captioned it, "Wear your non-ironed clothes every Monday. Let’s iron out climate change, not our clothes!"

The organization on May 15 will decide, whether the campaign should be continued or not.

CSIR and Central Leather Research Institute (CLRI) stated that the move to refrain from wearing no-ironed clothes at least once a week will help reduce energy consumption and show a collective commitment to environmental sustainability. As per the report, an iron takes about 800-1200 watts of power to operate, which is thirty times more as compared to the energy used by a bulb.

The campaign ‘Wrinkles Achche Hai’ is among one of the simple acts of daily life that can play a significant role in fighting climate change.
