Yet again! Over two decades ago, The Simpsons precisely predicted Kamala Harris Presidential run

Joe Biden's decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race has sparked intrigue due to a resemblance to an old "The Simpsons" episode. In the episode Bart to the Future, Lisa Simpson is shown as President, wearing an outfit similar to that of Vice President Kamala Harris.

In the wake of Joe Biden's announcement on July 21 that he will not seek re-election, a curious parallel to a classic "The Simpsons" episode has captured public attention. The 81-year-old President revealed that he will step aside from the 2024 presidential race, leaving Donald Trump as his potential opponent for another term. Biden's decision comes amid ongoing speculation about his health and leadership capabilities.

Following Biden’s exit, he has officially endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee for the upcoming election. This endorsement has sparked a flurry of memes and social media discussions. Among the notable reactions is a tweet highlighting a striking similarity between the current political scenario and an episode of "The Simpsons" titled *Bart to the Future*, which originally aired in March 2000.

Simpsons parallel universe

In *Bart to the Future*, the 17th episode of the 11th season, viewers get a glimpse of a future where Lisa Simpson is President of the United States, while Bart is portrayed as a freeloading presence in the White House. Fans quickly noted that Lisa's outfit in the episode closely resembles the purple blazer and pearl necklace worn by Harris during her swearing-in as Vice President. One X user, kirawontmiss, drew attention to this eerie resemblance, captioning a side-by-side comparison of the two outfits: “The Simpsons are back at it again.”

Harris’s response

As Harris prepares to move forward with her campaign, she expressed her gratitude for Biden’s endorsement. “On behalf of the American people, I thank Joe Biden for his extraordinary leadership as President of the United States and for his decades of service to our country,” Harris said in a statement. She added, “I am honoured to have the President’s endorsement and my intention is to earn and win this nomination.”

The Simpsons’ track record

This is not the first time "The Simpsons" has been associated with prophetic predictions. The show's writers have been known for their uncanny ability to seemingly forecast major events, from political developments to pop culture phenomena. Recent instances include an episode that was pulled from Channel 4’s schedule following a shooting incident involving Donald Trump, and an earlier episode from 1996 where Lisa discovers Springfield’s founder was a pirate who attempted to assassinate George Washington.

Writer’s perspective

Al Jean, one of the show's long-time writers, has commented on these supposed predictions. He attributes the show’s perceived foresight to the sheer volume of episodes produced since its debut in 1990. “One of our writers, the guy whose episode predicted Donald Trump as President, said it best, ‘If you write 700 episodes and you don’t predict anything, then you’re pretty bad. If you throw enough darts, you’re going to get some bullseye,’” Jean explained. He further remarked on the bizarre nature of some predictions, such as the 9/11 episode featuring a brochure with a $9 price and the number 11 styled like the Twin Towers, which was aired in 1996.
