Hailed as world’s one of the second largest Temple outside India “in the modern era” will be built by Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS) Akshardham organisation. The Akshardham Temple will be built in the United States’ New Jersey. The country is all set to host one of the largest inaugurations on October 8.

This majestic Mahamandir (grand temple) is dedicated to Bhagwan Swaminarayan, a Hindu spiritual leader of the 19th century, and was inspired by his 5th spiritual successor and renowned saint Pramukh Swami Maharaj. According to the information, the BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple in the small Robbinsville Township of New Jersey has been built by an army of more than 12,500 volunteers from across the US in over 12 years from 2011 to 2023. The temple has been built at the distance of 60 miles (90 km) from south of Times Square, New York, and about 180 miles (289 km) north of Washington DC.

The popular Akshardham temple spans over 183 acres, measuring 255 ft x 345 ft x 191 ft is currently visited by thousands of Hindus and people of other faiths every day from across the country ahead of its formal inauguration.

The temple has been designed on the basis of ancient Hindu scriptures and elements from Indian culture including 10,000 statues and statuettes, carvings of Indian musical instruments and dance forms.

It is also said that this temple is possibly the second largest after 12th-century Angkor Wat in Cambodia, which is among one of the largest Hindu temples spread over 500 acres and now a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The Akshardham temple in New Delhi built by Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS) was opened for the public in November 2005 is spread over 100 acres.
