Lawmakers of the opposition Republican have called onto its committee members to launch an investigation on Tuesday into President Biden for having ‘lied’ to the Americans about his son, Hunter’s business overseas and profiting from it while he served as vice president from 2009 to 2017, as per media reports.
This investigation was called upon by the Republican US. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy on “allegations of abuse of power, obstruction and corruption” and has the possibility of getting the US president get impeached, though such an outcome is very unlikely.

A president can be impeached by Congress in the event of ‘treason, bribery or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.”
The Senate will hold a trial in case of an impeachment by the House which is the political equivalent of a criminal indictment.
The process involves two stages. In the first stage, the lower, House of Representatives conducts a vote by a simple majority on articles of impeachment detailing the charges against the president.
Once the approval is passed in the lower House, the Senate puts the president on trial. The senators then vote on each article. Moreover, A two-thirds majority is required to convict, in which case impeachment is automatic and final. Otherwise, the president is acquitted.
When Donald Trump was in office, the House approved articles of impeachment in 2019 and again in 2021 but the Senate acquitted both times. No president has been removed from their office through impeachment in US history.
The Republicans have now narrowly controlled the House back this year and have said that they have “serious and credible allegations” against Biden, Speaker Kevin McCarthy now says.
“Today, I am directing our House committees to open a formal impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden,” McCarthy said in a brief statement at the Capitol on Tuesday, as per media reports.
“I do not make this decision lightly. And regardless of your party, or who you voted for these facts should concern all Americans,” he added.
Kevin shared avideo of his speech on the social media platform X and wrote ” I am directing our House committees to open a formal impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden. Over the past several months, House Republicans have uncovered serious and credible allegations into President Biden’s conduct—a culture of corruption.”

Moreover, as per McCarthy’s statements, the investigation will be overseen by House Oversight and Accountability Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.), in collaboration with House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith (R-Mo.)
This impeachment inquiry can also act as a distraction while Trump is facing 91 criminal charges ahead of the US presidential elections next year.
The House Oversight Committee has not concluded that Biden directly benefited financially from his son Hunter Biden’s business operations or that he made any policy judgments as a result of them in the months that it has been studying them.
“Opening impeachment despite zero evidence of wrongdoing by POTUS is simply red meat for the extreme right-wing so they can keep baselessly attacking him,” Ian Sams, White House spokesman for oversight and investigations, wrote on X
However, if this investigation unfolds the image of Biden’s rectitude could be tarnished by the televised hearings on his son’s affairs., as per media reports.
