The state media on Thursday informed that the chief of North Korea Kim Jong Un has suspended the military’s top general and called for preparations for the possibility of war. In addition to this, he has also called for a boost in weapons production, and expansion of military drills.

According to the reports, the directive has been issued by the top leader during a meeting with the Central Military Commission which discussed plans for countermeasures to warn North Korea’s enemies, however he did not name any of them.

General Ri Yong Gil was named to replace the military’s top general, chief of General Staff Pak Su Il, according to the sources. However, the reason for the replacement has not been disclosed and it is still unclear if Ri would retain his role as Defence minister or not.

Conflicts between North Korea and the US

Noteworthy is, that the United States has accused North Korea of supplying weapons, including artillery rounds, rockets, and missiles, to Russia for its conflict in Ukraine. Although, both countries have refuted the assertions.

According to the source, Kim also urged the military to practice using the nation’s most modern weaponry and equipment to maintain its troops prepared for battle.

On September 9, to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Day of the Foundation of the Republic, North Korea is planning a military parade. Paramilitary organisations are used by North Korea to reinforce its armed forces.

Meanwhile, the US and South Korea are planning to conduct military exercises on August 21 and August 24, which the North perceives as a threat to them.
