Iran on Tuesday carried out attacks on two bases belonging to the Jaish ul-Adl terror group in Pakistan's Balochistan province which has claimed two lives. This strike followed with a meeting between Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and Anwaar ul Haq Kakar, the caretaker Prime Minister of Pakistan, during the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

However, it's concerning that Iran held a diplomatic meeting with Pakistan in Davos, Switzerland, on the same day it conducted airstrikes in Balochistan, Pakistan which has raised several questions and considerations.

Meanwhile, Pakistan has strongly condemned the unprovoked violations of its airspace by Iran and the strike inside Pakistani territory which resulted in death of two innocent children and injured three girls.

In addition to this, while condemning the attacks on the territory, Pakistan in its press release mentioned, “It is even more concerning that this illegal act has taken place despite the existence of several channels of communication between Pakistan and Iran. Pakistan's strong protest has already been lodged with the concerned senior official in the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tehran. Additionally, the Iranian Charge d'affaires has been called to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to convey our strongest condemnation of this blatant violation of Pakistan's sovereignty and that the responsibility for the consequences will lie squarely with Iran.”

The diplomatic meeting aimed to improve relations between the two countries, while the airstrikes sent a contradictory message of tension and potential conflict. This mixed messaging could undermine the effectiveness of both diplomatic efforts and military operations.

The situation in Balochistan is complex and involves various actors with competing interests. Iran's actions could have ramifications not only for its relationship with Pakistan but also for the wider region. This now has raised the need of a dialogue, to address these concerns, open and constructive dialogue between Iran and Pakistan.

Iran’s airstrikes in Balochistan

Iran's airstrikes in Balochistan on the same day as a diplomatic meeting with Pakistan appear contradictory, but understanding the context reveals more complexity.

According to the sources, Iran claims the airstrikes targeted bases of the Jaish ul-Adl group, which it accuses of carrying out several cross-border attacks into Iran, killing Iranian border guards and civilians.

Iran emphasizes its right to self-defense and views these strikes as necessary to neutralize a significant threat.
