New Delhi: Malik Obama, half-brother of former US President Barack Obama, has announced his support for Donald Trump in the upcoming November 5 election. Taking to the social media platform X, Malik stated, "I am Malik Obama. I'm a registered Republican and I'm voting for President Donald Trump."

This isn’t the first time Malik has publicly supported Trump. He also backed the Republican nominee in the 2016 election, citing his focus on security policies as a key reason for his endorsement.

Who is Malik Obama?

Born in Kenya, Abon'go Malik Obama is the son of economist Barack Obama Sr and his first wife, Kezia Obama. A Kenyan-American businessman and philanthropist, Malik holds US citizenship and has a history of working in Washington, DC, as an accountant for several organizations, including Lockheed Martin, the American Red Cross, and Fannie Mae.

He currently serves as Lead Ambassador at Puppet, a software configuration management tool. Malik has had political ambitions of his own, having once run for governor in Kenya’s Siaya district, though his campaign garnered only 1% of the vote. He still maintains a residence in Maryland and is registered to vote in the United States.

Personal life and controversies

Malik’s relationship with his half-brother Barack Obama has been tumultuous. He was the best man at Barack’s 1992 wedding to Michelle Obama and even visited the White House during Barack’s presidency. However, the two have had a strained relationship over the years, partly due to Malik’s failed charity, the Barack H. Obama Foundation. In addition, Malik has perpetuated the conspiracy theory that Barack Obama was not born in the US, even sharing a falsified birth certificate to support his claims.
