A catastrophic fire broke out in Kuwait's Mangaf district, resulting in the deaths of at least 51 people. The building, which housed around 200 laborers from Kerala and Tamil Nadu, was engulfed in flames, causing widespread devastation.

How did the blaze start?

The blaze began in the kitchen of the labor camp at approximately 4:30 am local time. The fire quickly spread to the upper floors, trapping residents inside due to sealed glass windows.

Increasing death toll amid rescue efforts

In a desperate bid to escape, some individuals jumped from the building, leading to further injuries. Many suffered severe burns and smoke inhalation. Emergency services responded promptly, transporting the injured to nearby hospitals. Reports indicate that the death toll may rise as several people remain critically injured.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar expressed his shock over the incident. The Indian ambassador has visited the site to assess the situation and coordinate assistance.
