White House collision: A fatal incident occurred near the White House as a vehicle crashed into a security barrier, which caused the death of the driver. The Metropolitan Police Department has launched an investigation into the tragic event. Around 10:45 PM on Saturday night, a vehicle collided with a security barrier at the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue and 15th Street in Northwest D.C. Police arrived at the scene to find the driver, who had suffered fatal injuries.

Security breach

Authorities reported that the car breached a security perimeter around the White House. Currently, the incident is being treated as a traffic accident, as per reports from the Mirror US. The Secret Service spokesperson, Anthony Guglielmi, confirmed the collision with an exterior gate. President Joe Biden was not present in Washington, DC, at the time of the incident, as he was traveling from South Carolina to Texas.

Roads east of the White House in downtown Washington, DC were closed following the event. The identity of the driver remains undisclosed, and no criminal charges have been announced yet.

What was official response from the White House?

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre confirmed that President Biden was inside the White House during the recent incident. He was engaged in discussions with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy regarding the debt ceiling. President Biden was briefed about the incident afterward and expressed relief that no injuries were reported. He commended the response of law enforcement officers to the situation.

Previous incident

This incident follows a similar occurrence in January, where another vehicle hit a barricade surrounding the White House compound. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported during that incident. Previously, a 19-year-old from Missouri, Sai Varshith Kandula, crashed a truck into barriers near the White House in May 2023. The incident was allegedly aimed at harming the US president.
