New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong recently expressed their commitment to enhancing bilateral relations during a meeting held in Singapore. The discussions, which took place from September 4-5, 2024, marked Modis fifth official visit to the city-state. The leaders expressed their appreciation for their ministers efforts in developing a robust framework for cooperation, focusing on six key pillars that is sustainability, digitalization, skills development, healthcare and medicine, advanced manufacturing and connectivity.India and Singapore forge green energy partnershipIn the realm of sustainability, both leaders highlighted the significant potential for collaboration in Green Hydrogen and Green Ammonia projects. The Ministry of External Affairs emphasized that this partnership aligns with their shared goals of environmental stewardship and sustainable development. Additionally, the Prime Ministers have directed their teams to create a mutually beneficial cooperation framework in accordance with Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement. Modi also acknowledged Singapores support for Indias initiatives, including its role in the International Solar Alliance and the Global Biofuels Alliance, further strengthening their shared commitment to sustainable development.Expanding digital and technological collaborationThe leaders also welcomed the recent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) focused on Digital Technologies. This agreement is set to enhance cooperation in data management, artificial intelligence (AI), and cybersecurity. Both Prime Ministers agreed on the importance of facilitating trusted cross-border data flows and improving digital system interoperability. They are working towards establishing a bilateral Cyber Policy Dialogue and anticipate concluding a renewed MoU on Cybersecurity Cooperation between Singapores Cyber Emergency Response Team and Indias Computer Emergency Response Team.My visit to Singapore has been a very fruitful one. Another significant achievement is Trade Trust, which allows Singaporean and Indian banks to use interoperable electronic Bills of Lading (eBLs) for Letter of Credit transactions. These initiatives are a testament to the deepening economic ties and the ongoing efforts to streamline financial and technological processes between the two nations.
