Modi in Russia: During a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that India and Russia are suffering due to terrorism. He cited recent incidents in Moscow and Dagestan. "India has suffered from terrorism. We know how horrible it is. Recently, there were terrorist attacks in Moscow and Dagestan... We condemn terrorist attacks," Putin stated.
Last week, terrorist attacks in Derbent and Makhachkala, two major cities in Russia's Dagestan region. It resulted in the deaths of 21 people and injured 46 others. This attack followed a horrific event months earlier when Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISIS-K) terrorists opened fire at Crocus City Hall in Moscow, which killed over 140 people.
Prime Minister Modi expressed his strong condemnation of the recent attacks in Russia, describing terrorism as "horrible" and "disgusting."
"In the last 40-50 years, India has been facing terrorism. We have been facing this for 40 years. I know how horrible and disgusting terrorism is," Modi said.
The ongoing Ukraine war was another major topic during the discussions. PM Modi highlighted the heavy toll of the conflict, with over 80,000 troops killed on both sides and numerous civilians displaced. He stressed that a solution cannot be achieved through war and called for peace through dialogue.
"For a bright future, war is not a solution. India is in favour of peace. I am hopeful of peace. Ready to cooperate for peace," PM Modi asserted.
PM Modi expressed satisfaction with the open and respectful dialogue he had with Putin regarding the Ukraine conflict. "I am happy that we could discuss the war in Ukraine with an open mind, and we listened to each other's thoughts on the war with great respect," Modi remarked.
Although Modi did not specifically mention the recent Russian missile attack on a children's hospital in Ukraine, he expressed deep sorrow over the loss of innocent lives, particularly children.
"Be it war, conflicts, terror attacks - everyone who believes in humanity is pained when there is loss of lives. But when innocent children are murdered, when we see innocent children dying, it is heart-wrenching. That pain is immense," Modi said.
