New Delhi: On Sunday, a helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian, and several other high-ranking officials crashed in the Jolfa region of East Azerbaijan province. Iranian state TV released footage showing President Raisi inside the helicopter moments before the tragic incident. A still from the video captures Raisi seated in front of the foreign minister, looking out the window of the ill-fated chopper.

Women dance celebrating Raisi's death

The death of President Raisi has sent waves of mourning across the globe but apparently, the women of Iran are happy. A post on social media platform X, shared by Iranian journalist Masih Alinejad, shows a mother-daughter duo dancing. According to Alinejad, the woman's son was executed by Raisi a few months ago, and she is now seen celebrating his death.

Masih Alinejad's post highlights the stark contrast in reactions to Raisi's demise. She wrote, "Just a few months ago, Ebrahim Raisi executed her son. Now, she’s dancing over his death in a helicopter crash. I told you Iranian women are wounded but unbowed to their oppressors." Alinejad further mentioned that her social media is flooded with videos of families of those killed by Raisi, celebrating his death.

Tragic incident in east Azerbaijan province

Both President Raisi and Foreign Minister Abdollahian were confirmed dead after the crash on Sunday. They were reportedly returning from a visit to neighboring Azerbaijan. Following the incident, state television reported that a helicopter in the president’s convoy had met with an "accident" in East Azerbaijan province.

Local media reported that nine individuals were on board the helicopter: President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian, Governor of Eastern Azerbaijan province Malek Rahmati, Tabriz's Friday prayer Imam Mohammad Ali Alehashem, a pilot, copilot, crew chief, head of security, and another bodyguard.
