New Delhi: In a devastating incident in Hathras district, Uttar Pradesh, a stampede at a large religious gathering led to the death of 121 people. The tragedy occured on Tuesday in Fullerai village, Sikandrau area, where thousands had gathered for a satsang by Narayan Sakar Vishwa Hari also known as Bhole Baba. The incident has garnered nationwide and international attention, with leaders and celebrities expressing their condolences.

Russian President reacts

Russian President Vladimir Putin extended his condolences to India, addressing his message to President Draupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In his heartfelt note, Putin expressed his sympathies to the families of those who lost their lives and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured. "We are deeply saddened," he wrote, emphasizing his solidarity with the victims.

PM Modi's scheduled visit to Russia

Putin's message comes at a time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit Moscow to meet the Russian President. While an official announcement is pending, sources indicate that Modi's visit may occur next week. Concurrently, Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar is in Russia, attending the annual summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), representing India.

Investigation report on the Hathras incident

The SDM Sikandrarao has submitted an investigation report on the incident to the District Magistrate. According to the report, over 200,000 devotees were present in the pandal during the satsang. As the event concluded, the crowd surged forward to seek blessings from Narayan Sakar Hari, also known as Bhole Baba. The chaotic rush to touch his feet and receive his charan dust led to pushing and shoving, resulting in multiple people falling.

The situation worsened as the crowd moved towards an open field in front of the venue. The slope leading from the road to the field caused many to slip and fall, leading to further injuries and fatalities. Immediate action by the police and emergency services saw the injured being transported to nearby hospitals and community health centers.

CM Yogi Adityanath takes stake

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited the site on Wednesday, offering his condolences and overseeing the relief efforts. The government has pledged support for the victims' families and promised a thorough investigation into the incident.
