The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) discovered a cache of weapons and games used to promote violence in children inside the Khan Yunis home of a Hamas commander on Saturday. This comes as IDF forces continue to battle Hamas militants in the region.

Hamas operatives killed in nearby school

According to the IDF, three Hamas operatives armed with rocket-propelled grenades were killed inside a nearby school in the Bani Suheila neighbourhood of Khan Yunis after a firefight. The militants were part of Khan Yunis's Hamas Brigade and had intelligence information on them.

Child's bedroom housed weapons

In their search of the Hamas commander's house, IDF soldiers uncovered a significant amount of armaments including grenades, magazines, and tactical vests. Notably, many weapons were located inside a child’s bedroom mixed in with toys and games. The IDF specified that some games promoted and incited violence. One released photo showed kids armed with weapons attacking Israelis on a puzzle map.

Assessment amid ongoing violence

The discoveries coincided with the IDF’s release of footage showing senior IDF officials evaluating the situation in Khan Yunis on Friday. Violence continues to plague the region after Hamas’ deadly attacks on October 7th killed over 1,200 Israeli civilians near the Gaza border. 129 people reportedly remain captive under Hamas inside Gaza at this time between identified bodies and those still missing. Recovery efforts are ongoing.
