A US military aircraft, V-22 Osprey crashed into the ocean near Japan's Yakushima island with eight people on board on Wednesday.

As per the reports from Reuters, the spokesperson for Japan's coast guard said that it had no safety details of three guards, who were found by the fishermen. A local fisheries cooperative said that fishing boats in the area found three people in the surrounding waters.

Failure of its left engine

After disappearing from the radar at 2.40 PM, the accident happened at 2.47 PM (local time). As per the locals, the US military aircraft had fire blowing from its left engine as it fell into the sea. The US forces in the region said they were still investigating to gather information about the incident.

The deployment of the V-22 Osprey aircraft in Japan has been controversial, with critics saying the hybrid aircraft is vulnerable and causes accidents. However, the US military and Japan say it is safe enough to operate.

Osprey accidents in past

Earlier in a similar incident, three US Marines were killed when the US Osprey crashed off the coast of northern Australia while transporting troops during a routine military exercise in August.
