The US intelligence service has estimated that the death toll for the Gaza hospital strike hovers between 100 to 300. A rocket attacked the Al-Ahli al-Arabi Hospital in Gaza on Wednesday, killing at least 500 people, according to the Gaza authorities.

However, contradicting this statement, the US intelligence services estimate a lower death rate that ranges between 100 and 300 people, as per media reports. We estimate the number of deaths is probably at the low end of the 100-to-300 spectrum," excerpts of the intelligence assessment provided to Congress said.

"We are still assessing the likely casualty figures and our assessment may evolve, but this death toll still reflects a staggering loss of life."

Gaza hospital attack

Hamas has blamed Israel for the air strikes at the hospital though Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has denied such attacks. Instead, Netanyahu has blamed the jihadi group for the Gaza hospital attacks. The Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas called this attack “a massacre” at Al-Ahli al-Arabi Hospital and accused Israel of this deadly attack.

PM Netanyahu has said these strikes in the hospital were launched by the “barbaric terrorists” in Gaza and not by Israel’s military.

Netanyahu said that intelligence from several sources revealed that Islamic Jihad was responsible for the unsuccessful rocket launch. “An analysis of IDF operational systems indicates that a barrage of rockets was fired by terrorists in Gaza, passing in close proximity to the Al Ahli hospital in Gaza at the time it was hit,” he posted on social media platform X.

Gaza officials spoke up

The Gaza civil defence chief said that approximately 300 people were killed in the Gaza hospital attack, but a health ministry official said that at least 500 died. On the other hand, Hamas claims that the blast mostly killed the displaced people in the strike, per media reports.

Meanwhile, Israeli authorities claimed that the rockets were fired by the Palestinian Islamic Jihadi militant group. However, Islamic Jihad denied that any of its rockets were involved in the hospital blast. The incident took place on the eve of US President Joe Biden’s visit to Israel.
