US-China Tension

US-China Tension: The ongoing tariff war between the US and China is now going to affect the citizens of both countries. This tariff war has brought the relations between the two countries to a delicate point. In such a situation, China has issued two warnings to its citizens regarding traveling to America. It has been said in these that they should be cautious. Both countries are imposing heavy taxes (tariffs) on each other's goods. According to the South China Morning Post report, China's Ministry of Culture and Tourism said that economic relations between China and the US are deteriorating.

Also, the security situation in the US is not good. Therefore, Chinese tourists are appealed to assess the risks before going to the US and travel with caution. This statement came when China announced an additional 50 percent tax on American goods. Earlier, the US increased the tariff rate on China to 104 percent. These tariffs can harm the normal trade relations that have been going on for decades between the two countries.

Separate warning regarding the law of Ohio state

Apart from this, the Education Ministry of China also issued a separate warning. This warning was regarding a new law being made in the US state of Ohio. There are some negative things related to China in this law. The Ohio Senate passed this bill last month. It talks about banning educational exchange between China and America. The ministry said that students studying abroad are requested to assess the security risks before going to states like Ohio in America for studies.

Disputed Bill in Ohio: It also talks to stop China's influence

This bill in Ohio mainly targets rules related to diversity and equality in public universities there. But it also includes a talk of preventing foreign influence from China. Ohio's Republican leaders say that this law will protect their institutions from interference by China. If this bill passes the state Senate and becomes law with the signature of Governor Mike DeWine, then it will come into force.

Warning on Chinese students in America amid strictness

This warning has come at a time when the US is also getting stricter on Chinese students. Last year, India overtook China to become the country sending the largest number of international students to the US. In 2023-24, 3,31,602 Indian students were studying in the US, while the number of Chinese students was 2,77,398. Chinese students were the largest foreign student population in the US from 2009-10, but their number has been declining since 2019-20.
