United States: Seven injured in Kentucky highway shooting, armed suspect on the run

New Delhi: Authorities in Kentucky are searching for a suspect after seven people were shot while driving along Interstate 75 in rural Laurel County. The incident occurred around 6 PM on Saturday near the town of London, approximately 90 miles south of Lexington. According to reports, the gunfire originated from a wooded area or possibly an overpass.

Police responded to reports of gunfire targeting vehicles on the highway. The mayor of London, Randall Weddle, confirmed on Facebook that seven individuals were injured, with some suffering from gunshot wounds. Fortunately, no fatalities have been reported. Officials have not yet provided additional details about the condition of the victims.

Suspect remains at large

Mayor Weddle urged residents to lock their doors while the suspect remains on the loose. A section of the highway was temporarily closed but has since reopened, even though the suspect is still at large.

Police identify susupect

The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office named Joseph A. Couch, a 32-year-old male, as a "person of interest" in the shooting. Couch is described as armed and dangerous. Authorities warned the public not to approach him and to contact 911 immediately with any information about his whereabouts.

Federal agents join ops

In addition to local law enforcement and Kentucky State Police, agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) have joined the investigation. The ATF referred to the incident as a "critical" situation.

This shooting comes just days after a tragic school shooting in Georgia, raising concerns about the growing frequency of gun violence in the United States. Law enforcement continues to search for the suspect in this latest attack.
