In a devastating incident, at least four people were killed and three others wounded during a party in northern Kentucky. The suspect in the shooting later died after fleeing the scene and leading police on a vehicle chase that ended when his car went into a ditch, according to police reports on Saturday.
Police Chief Jeff Mallery of Florence reported that officers responded to shots being fired at a home around 2:50 am. Upon arrival, they discovered seven shooting victims. "Four people were found dead," Mallery stated during a press conference. The other three victims were transported to a Cincinnati hospital in critical condition but are expected to recover.
The suspect, who acted alone, initiated a police chase after fleeing the scene. The pursuit concluded when his vehicle veered off the road and landed in a ditch. Police found the suspect with a self-inflicted gunshot wound; he later died at the hospital.
The gathering was a birthday party for the 21-year-old son of the homeowner, who was among those killed. The 20-year-old suspect was known to some attendees but had not been invited. "A motive is still under investigation," Mallery noted.
"This is the first time we've had a mass shooting in Florence," Mallery said. "My emotions are for the victims, their families, the officers who responded, and everybody that was touched by this situation." Florence, located approximately 12 miles south of Cincinnati, Ohio, is now grappling with the aftermath of this tragic event.
Authorities continue to investigate the motive behind the shooting and the connections between the suspect and the party attendees. The incident has left the community in shock, with many seeking answers and reassurance in the wake of this senseless violence.
