The United Kingdom‘s Prime Minister has ordered a ban on Russian diamonds, the military-industrial complex, and metals as part of a new wave of sanctions in response to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Additionally, a prohibition on imports of copper, aluminium, and nickel with a Russian provenance has been imposed. It was estimated that this sector will generate USD4 billion in revenue in 2021.

The diamond export restriction coincides with the continuing Russia-Ukraine conflict. The announcement was made by the UK Prime Minister Sunak on Thursday. taking it to Twitter, PM Rishi Sunak wrote, “Ensuring Ukraine wins is the most important thing we can do for global peace and security. We are banning all imports of Russian diamonds, copper, aluminium and nickel. Sanctions are having a clear impact in degrading Putin’s war effort. The G7 stands united with Ukraine”

The UK is also prepared to target an additional 86 members of Putin’s military-industrial complex as well as those involved in crucial areas including energy, metals, and shipping in addition to current trade penalties, the statement stated.

The Kremlin actively aids in attempts to lessen the impact of present sanctions, the UK said, and it is engaging with G7 allies to address all sorts of sanctions circumvention. Ahead of G7, PM Sunak also issued a warning against complacency in preserving the ideas and against despotic governments, during a meet with G7 leaders in Hiroshima.

The UK has also applied the harshest set of sanctions ever placed on a significant economy, to hinder Russia’s war. According to an official statement, the UK government have sanctioned over Pound 20 billion of UK-Russia goods trade to over 1,500 individuals and entities, and along with this, the UK government assets worth Pound 18 billion, also got frozen.

The PM has also included visiting the A-Bomb dome site at the Hiroshima Peace Park before taking part in meetings on international cooperation, the G7 response to Ukraine, and Indo-Pacific security strategy.

The United States will also announce fresh measures to severely restrict Russia’s access to products that are important for its military capabilities, according to a statement released in advance of the G7 summit in Japan. About 70 businesses and organisations will be placed on a sanctions list by the US because they sold prohibited US goods to Russia.
