Turkey: Parliament begins new term hours after terrorist blast in Ankara

(Update 7:34 pm): Hours after the terrorist attack in Ankara this morning, the Turkish parliament has reconvened for a new term. The blast took place in front of the internal ministry building where two terrorists came in a commercial vehicle and deployed a bomb at the entrance. Two policemen were also injured in this bombing.

The Turkish parliament convened after a nearly three-month break. The session was opened by the speaker of the parliament, Numan Kurtulmus, who delivered an opening speech, as per media reports.


Turkey: Terrorist attack outside interior ministry injures two police officers

A bomb attack was carried out in the Ankara area near the Parliament of Turkey which left two police officers injured on Sunday. Two terrorists arrived in a commercial vehicle in front of the Interior Ministry buildings and set off an explosion in home to ministerial buildings and parliament, the interior ministry said.

Turkey interior ministry officer says fight against terrorism to continue

One of the attackers died in the act while another one was neutralised, as per the statement of Ali Yerlikaya, an official in the interior ministry.

Yerliyaka took to the social media platform, X to announce the attack and wrote “ Our struggle will continue until the last terrorist is neutralised ”

The official further announced that the two police officers are receiving treatment while adding that the injuries of the two officers are not life-threatening. He also wrote on X “Our fight against terrorism, gangs, and organised criminal organisations will continue with determination” m

According to media reports, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan was due to speak at the opening session of parliament, located just one kilometre (mile) away.
