Trump Tariff
International News: After the announcement of tariff plan by US President Donald Trump, the wealth of the world's 500 richest people has declined by $208 billion. In fact, this decline is considered to be the biggest decline in the last decade, which has created a stir not only in the US markets but also at the global level. According to media reports, the person most affected by this loss was Facebook and Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg, whose wealth decreased by $17.9 billion, which reflects a 9 percent decline in his total wealth. This decline is the fourth largest single-day decline in the 13-year history of the Bloomberg Billionaire Index and the biggest decline since the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Apart from this, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos also saw his wealth decline by $15.9 billion as the company's shares fell by 9 percent, the biggest drop since April 2022. At the same time, Donald Trump's close friend and government advisor Elon Musk lost $11 billion in his wealth as Tesla's shares fell by 5.5 percent.
The wealth of other American billionaires also did not escape the decline. These include:
Bernard Arnault, France's richest man, has also been hit by the drop. His LVMH group (which owns brands such as Christian Dior, Bulgari and Loro Piana) saw its shares fall in Paris, reducing Arnault's wealth by $6 billion.
US President Donald Trump announced an additional 34 percent tariff on goods coming from China, taking the total tariff rate imposed on China to 54 percent. 20 percent and 24 percent tariffs were imposed on goods coming from the European Union and Japan respectively, which has had a huge impact on global trade.
