US President Donald Trump
US President Donald Trump is making headlines these days all over the world for reciprocal tariffs and continuous action against China. His move is being criticized in the US as well. Meanwhile, he was ridiculed on America's popular show 60 Minutes. This incident has enraged Trump. He alleged that this show takes his name every week in a "humiliating and defamatory manner". He said that this time's broadcast crossed all limits. He has said that he will pay the price for this.
Furious Trump slams American Show
Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social, "Almost every week '60 Minutes' tries to defame my name, but this weekend's 'broadcast' was the worst ever." He demanded the US Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr to impose the maximum fine and punishment for "illegal and unlawful behavior" on the CBS channel. The CBS network has not given any immediate response to this.
What made Trump so angry
In the episode aired on Sunday, “60 Minutes” senior correspondent Scott Pelley visited Ukraine, where he met President Volodymyr Zelensky. This interview was done at the site of a Russian attack, where 9 children were recently killed. Zelensky said in the interview that he hates Russian President Vladimir Putin “100%” and invited Donald Trump to come to Ukraine and see with his own eyes what has happened here.
In the same episode, another reporter, John Wertheim, reported from Greenland and told what people there think about Trump's desire to bring Greenland under the US. Trump said in his post, "60 Minutes is no longer a news show, but a political tool that is presenting itself as 'news'. He must take responsibility for his actions."
$20 billion lawsuit
The lawsuit is regarding the interview in which Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris was shown. Trump has alleged that the interview was edited in such a way to show Kamala Harris in a better light. However, “60 Minutes” has denied this allegation. According to reports, settlement talks are also underway between Trump's lawyers and CBS's parent company. The FCC is also conducting a separate investigation against CBS News regarding this matter. Other major media networks like ABC News, NBC, PBS, NPR and Walt Disney Co. are also involved in this investigation.
