Based on recent reports, if he wins the 2024 presidential election, former President Donald Trump plans to reinstate his divisive ‘Muslim ban.’ According to sources, Trump has called the policy “beautiful” and hinted that he might expand the list of countries with a majority of Muslims that are prohibited from entering the United States.

The notorious Muslim ban

According to reports, Donald Trump has been obsessed with keeping Muslims from entering the United States for a long time, dating back to his presidential campaign in 2015, when he declared a “complete ban” on Muslim admission into the country. He issued an executive order restricting entry to the United States for a period of 90 days for citizens of seven primarily Muslim countries shortly after taking office in 2017. This strategy sparked chaos and ambiguity at American ports and airports and sparked a diplomatic dispute with Iraq.

Federal courts blocked the first edition of the executive order, but the Supreme Court marginally upheld a modified version of the ban in 2018. One of President Biden’s first acts after taking office was to revoke this presidential order.

Trump has recently discussed wanting to reinstate the travel ban in rallies, but the public hasn’t given the idea much thought. Trump has also advocated for further strong anti-immigration policies as part of his prospective 2024 campaign, such as closing the border entirely and expelling illegal immigrants.

Stephen Miller, a former top policy advisor in the Trump White House who helped write the first Muslim ban executive order, has advocated for the ban’s return. Miller tweeted in August, “Reinstate the travel ban now.” He and other Trump supporters criticised the United States’ reception of Afghan refugees upon the country’s fall to the Taliban in 2021.

Trump’s presidency bid includes more than just a Muslim ban

Trump’s objectives for re-election go beyond harsh immigration laws. He has advocated for the reinstatement of firing squads, mass killings, and even fantasising about assaults on journalists in prison. He has also proposed bombing Mexico. During his CPAC speech, he described himself as the people’s “retribution.” Opponents of the Muslim ban have claimed that the legislation is a chaotic and horrible concept that has disturbed the lives of many families and would simply add to the already complex legal immigration process. It is unclear whether Trump’s pledge to restore the ban will gain momentum in his presidential candidature in 2024.
