Amid strained India-Canada relations, Canada’s allies in the “Five Eyes” intelligence-sharing setup, expressed deep concern over Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s allegations of a “potential link” between Indian government agents and the killing of Khalistani leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in June.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau dumped serious allegations on India that accused the Indian government has its hand in the killing of the Khalistani leader in June this year which India rejected and called “absurd and motivated”.
Canada also expelled a senior Indian diplomat to the country on Monday which was followed by a counterattack from India where the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) also expelled a senior Canadian diplomat to India on Tuesday.

The US expressed concern at the allegations and said it is critical for the perpetrators to be brought to justice.
“The US was deeply concerned about the allegations disclosed by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, National Security Council spokesperson Adrienne Watson said in an emailed statement.
“We remain in regular contact with our Canadian partners. It is critical that Canada’s investigation proceed and the perpetrators be brought to justice,” Ms Watson added.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s statement about India’s involvement has sent frenzy across the international world. Australia has also given its remark on the issue and said that it’s deeply concerned by these allegations, a spokesperson for foreign minister Penny Wong said on Tuesday.
“Australia is deeply concerned by these allegations and notes ongoing investigations into this matter,” the spokesperson said.
“We are closely engaged with partners on developments. We have conveyed our concerns at senior levels to India, ” the spokesperson added.
Britain said on Tuesday it was in close touch with its Canadian partners about “serious allegations” from Ottawa that the Indian government was involved in the murder of a Sikh separatist leader in Canada.
“We are in close touch with our Canadian partners about these serious allegations,” a government spokesperson said.
“It would be inappropriate to comment further during the ongoing investigation by the Canadian authorities,” the spokesperson further added.
