New Delhi: Former US President Donald Trump made a bold assertion at his first campaign rally since surviving an assassination attempt, proclaiming he "took a bullet for democracy" to an enthusiastic crowd in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Sporting a flesh-tone bandage on his right ear, Trump recounted the July 13 incident in Pennsylvania where he was shot, resulting in the death of one supporter and injuries to two others. He expressed gratitude for surviving the ordeal, crediting divine providence for his continued presence.

"It was exactly one week ago, even to the hour, even to the minute," Trump told supporters. "I stand before you only by the grace of almighty God. I shouldn't be here right now."
