The wildest love story: Tiger’s 3 year-200 kms journey to reunite with partner

Recently, an extraordinary tale of devotion unfolded in the wild, as a Siberian tiger named Boris traveled an astounding 200 kilometers across Russia to reunite with his former mate, Svetlaya. This incredible journey, spanning nearly three years, is a testament to the unyielding bonds of love and resilience in the animal kingdom.

IAS officer Supriya Sahu, previously serving as ACS Environment, Climate Change & Forest, highlighted this inspiring story on social media. Sharing the details, she captioned, "If Humans Can Go Miles for Love, So Can Tigers." Boris, the tiger at the heart of this tale, was a rescued cub raised alongside Svetlaya in a semi-wild environment. Scientists prepared the tigers for life in the wilderness while minimizing human interaction.

Separated by over 100 miles upon their release into the wild, Boris and Svetlaya lived apart for years. Yet, defying all odds, Boris embarked on a 120-mile journey to reconnect with his childhood companion.

Boris’s dedication culminated in an emotional reunion with Svetlaya, marking a beautiful new chapter in their lives. Six months later, their bond bore fruit as Svetlaya gave birth to a litter of cubs. This heartwarming story reflects the enduring power of love and resilience, transcending species and boundaries.
