This missile defense system saves millions of Israelis from dying, its cost is just Rs 10 crore

Two ballistic missiles fired from Yemen attacked Israel, but were destroyed mid-air by THAAD and the Israeli Arrow missile defense system. This incident shows how modern missile defense systems can save millions of lives. The US-provided THAAD system is known for its portability and accuracy, while the Arrow system is Israel's local defense capability.

International News: When two ballistic missiles fired from Yemen headed towards Israel, the lives of millions of people were in danger. But an Israeli missile destroyed these missiles in the air itself. Both the THAAD missile and the Israeli Arrow system played an important role in this, which made it clear how a missile costing Rs 10 crore can save millions of lives. Missiles fired from Yemen on Sunday spread panic in Israel. Thousands of people were sent to safe shelters. But as soon as the missiles entered the Israeli border, the American and Israeli joint defense system THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defense) intercepted them mid-way. The debris falling in Hebron confirmed that both missile interceptors had worked together.

The Biden administration had sent the THAAD system

In October last year, the US deployed the THAAD missile system in Israel to further strengthen its security. This step was taken after continuous missile attacks from Iran. THAAD is specially designed to destroy ballistic missiles at high altitude and is considered to be the US counterpart to the Israeli Arrow system.

Their working methods are different

Although both THAAD and Arrow are intended to intercept ballistic missiles, their working methods are different. The Arrow system goes near the missile and destroys it with hot metal pieces, while THAAD adopts 'hit to kill' technology. That is, it destroys the target by directly colliding with it. For this reason, THAAD requires more accurate tracking and control.

High speed and portability

Both systems are capable of intercepting missiles at a speed of 9,000 to 10,000 kilometers per hour. But THAAD is light and portable, which can be sent to the war zone via cargo plane. On the other hand, the Arrow system is heavy and is transported from one place to another with the help of trucks. For this reason, THAAD can be easily deployed in other areas of the world as well.

THAAD is writing a new definition

This joint system has shown how modern defence technology can prove to be a lifesaver. A THAAD missile costs around Rs 10 crore, but this missile is capable of saving millions of lives. The US and Israel together have achieved a new height in missile defence, which is also inspiring the rest of the world. Such technologies are becoming a guarantee of peace and security amid threats like Yemen, Iran and North Korea.
