According to the authorities, Francisco Oropesa was captured on Tuesday night in Cut and Shoot, Texas, which is located about 16 miles to the west of where the incident took place. The local police claimed that he was found hiding in an attic beneath a load of laundry. The 38-year-old suspect is booked for multiple charges of first-degree murder for allegedly shooting down five of his neighbours in Cleveland, Texas, among them a young boy. According to police, the murderer will serve the rest of his life in prison for the deaths of the five people.

A days-long manhunt for the attacker

Authorities reported that Oropesa is now detained at the Montgomery County Jail and will soon be transferred to San Jacinto County Prison. His arrest marks the end of a protracted investigation that involved hundreds of law enforcement officials searching door to door for the accused person and an $80,000 reward for any info.

The FBI in Houston declared on Tuesday that it was working with local, state, federal, and foreign law enforcement agencies to find Oropesa. Over the weekend, officials claimed that they were unaware of his whereabouts and that he had weapons and was dangerous. Every effort was being made, according to the FBI’s Houston field office, to find the person suspected.

Based on the reports, Oropesa was taken into custody on Tuesday as a result of a tip to an FBI helpline. Around an hour after receiving the tip, he was found at a Cut and Shoot house. According to police, the $80,000 reward that the authorities had offered for any information that resulted in Oropesa’s arrest will now be given to the person who gave the tip.

Details of the crime

The gunfire started after the neighbours approached Oropesa’s fence on Friday night and asked him to stop shooting in the yard. The police stated that the neighbours had a baby who was attempting to fall asleep. When his neighbours requested him to stop shooting in his yard, Oropesa allegedly said, “I’ll do what I like to do in my front yard.” When Oropesa shot randomly multiple times in his yard, the neighbours repeatedly let the authorities know. Oropesa had been drinking on the night of the incident, according to the local police.

The victim’s security footage showed that the attacker had come to their home carrying a gun. Then, after murdering all five victims, he fled the scene. No other people were hurt. The police estimated that there were ten people living in the residence at the time of the incident. Two women were killed after protecting at least two toddlers with their bodies, yet the kids survived the attack despite being drenched in the women’s blood.

Three women, a man, and a little kid were among the victims of the shooting. The victims’ bodies would be sent to Honduras, according to government representatives there. Oropesa had a card from the Mexican embassy, and after the shooting, his wife was questioned by the police.
