World News: In a harrowing attack, at least 12 Pakistani soldiers lost their lives after a suicide bomber rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into a joint checkpost in the Malikhel area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The assault occurred late Tuesday night and targeted a security post jointly manned by Pakistani military personnel and the Frontier Constabulary.

Attack Details and Military Response

According to the Pakistan Army’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), "The terrorists attempted to attack a joint check post in general area Malikhel in Bannu district, but their attempt to enter the post was effectively thwarted by troops."

Despite their defensive efforts, the blast caused the collapse of part of the perimeter wall and adjoining infrastructure, killing 10 soldiers of the security forces and two from the Frontier Constabulary. The ISPR further revealed that six terrorists were neutralized in the ensuing gunbattle. A sanitization operation is currently underway in the area, with the Army vowing to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Responsibility Claimed by Hafiz Gul Bahadur Group

The Hafiz Gul Bahadur faction, a splinter group of the Pakistani Taliban, has claimed responsibility for the suicide bombing. The incident underscores the escalating violence in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, where insurgent activities have surged significantly in recent months.

Spike in Violence Across Pakistan

Pakistan has been witnessing a sharp rise in terror-related incidents. Earlier this month, 25 individuals, including 14 soldiers, were killed in a blast at Quetta’s main railway station in Balochistan. According to the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS), the third quarter of 2024 reported a staggering 90% increase in violent incidents across the country.

PM Shehbaz Sharif Announces New Offensive

In response to the growing instability, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced a military offensive targeting separatists in Balochistan. This southwestern region is not only a hotspot for violence but also houses crucial projects under China's Belt and Road Initiative. The new operation aims to restore order and address the spate of recent attacks.
