International News: The lives of thousands of Chinese wives living in Taiwan are tense these days. In fact, a legal rule has raised a big question on their future. If the necessary documents are not provided within three months, they may lose their legal residence in Taiwan. In some cases, this situation can even lead to separation from the husband. In such a situation, about 12,000 women of Chinese origin are struggling to save their family and identity.
In fact, Taiwan's National Immigration Agency has issued a directive that Chinese citizen wives who are living in Taiwan and have not yet confirmed their 'Household Registration' related to their Chinese citizenship, will have to submit a certified copy of it within three months. If they fail to do so, their Taiwanese citizenship can be cancelled.
This rule was implemented in 2004, but many women say that they never thought seriously about it, because they had been living permanently with their husbands and children in Taiwan for years. Now suddenly the government's demand for documents and setting deadlines has left them scared and confused.
The seriousness of this problem can be gauged from the fact that 'The Straits Exchange Foundation' is facing thousands of calls and visits these days. There was so much rush that many women went straight to the service center when they could not be contacted over the phone. After this, the foundation had to appoint additional staff and share the detailed process on the website.
The biggest concern for these women is that the documents they have to submit to the Taiwanese government must be prepared and certified in China. This process is not only long and complicated, but it can also be delayed due to political complications. Many women said that this three-month deadline is too short and if they are unable to complete the process, they may have to be separated from their husbands and families.
Questions are also being raised about this action of the government. Many social organizations and human rights activists have called it a violation of women's rights. They say that suddenly putting women who have been living in Taiwan for a long time and living their lives with families in such legal complications is not only unjust, but also wrong from a humanitarian point of view.
Overall, these 12,000 Chinese wives living in Taiwan are under deep stress these days. They are worried not only about their citizenship but also about their families, children and the stability of their lives. Whether the government shows leniency on this issue in the coming days or not will decide the future of these thousands of women.
