Federal election in Canada
International News: In the federal election held in Canada, the Liberal Party led by Mark Carney has registered a stunning victory. The special thing about this election was that the Indian-Canadian community, especially Punjabi-origin candidates, not only contested the election on a large scale but made a record 22 candidates in Parliament. This is the biggest representation ever.
Comparing the previous elections, 18 Punjabi origin MPs reached Parliament in 2021 and 20 in 2019. This time 65 candidates of Indian origin contested the election, out of which 22 victory has given a new dimension to the role of Indians in Canadian politics.
Brampton once again proved to be a stronghold of the Punjabi community. Punjabi candidates were victorious in all five seats here, although the contest was interesting because Punjabi candidates were face to face with each other in many places.
Amid the victory of the Liberal Party, leaders of Indian origin also made a tremendous presence at the Conservative Party. Especially many Punjabi faces won from provinces like Alberta and British Columbia:
The election was disappointing for the New Democratic Party (NDP). Jagmeet Singh, who was a pro -Khalistan image and the face of the party, suffered a defeat from British Columbia's Burnbi Central seat. NDP's vote share has also fallen badly to just 6%, which is a 12% decline compared to last time.
Many Conservative Punjabi candidates lost in this election. These include:
At the same time, Chandra Arya, who has been a three -time MP and considered pro -India, was not given tickets by the Liberal Party this time, which saw resentment among his supporters.
This time the election will be known for the decisive role of Indian origin citizens, especially Punjabi voters. He not only influenced the election results, but every major party also preferred candidates of Indian origin. Due to this, his participation in Canadian mainstream politics is being recorded in depth.
